Supporting Change
Tailored Faculty Development
We work closely with you and your faculty to custom design a faculty development program that supports their goals and desired growth. Our team has extensive experience designing theoretically grounded, impactful, and engaging workshops. Our approach is unique and leverages our design philosophy centering students and adjusting to the needs and capacity of attendees. No two programs are alike, but these are examples of the kinds of topics and activities you might find in our workshops. We seek to create a protected space where faculty can ask questions and playfully experiment with theoretically grounded principles for enhancing the learning experience of diverse students. We not only incorporate lots of interaction and activity, but also attempt to maintain pedagogical transparency, explaining how and why they have designed certain activities. This way, not only are faculty engaged but they are also observing techniques that they can apply in their own classrooms.
Fostering student motivation
Ever wonder why students engage in certain courses/activities/class sessions more than others? Interested in not only supporting but fostering student engagement in your own classes? This workshop will introduce intrinsic motivation as a framework for supporting students’ engagement within our courses and playfully experiment with ways to foster this motivation through the design of our courses.
Pathways into/through STEM
A student’s experience in our course is just one experience on their larger educational pathway. This workshop will consider the experiences of students as they move through their coursework and introduce educational theories (e.g., transition theory, agency) to examine students' experiences from different perspectives. We will also collaboratively generate ideas of ways we can support students’ educational pathways and professional goals within our courses.
Student-centered course design
Our deep understanding of our students provides us, as educators, with valuable information we can use to design our courses. But how do we actually do that? What does it take to intentionally integrate students’ assets in our courses in ways that support student learning? In this workshop, we will playfully experiment with course activities and assessments to connect students’ assets with our course designs.
